About Name
Stephen’s Table takes its name from Acts 6 where the Apostles’ essential role of “prayer and ministry of the word” is preserved by a division of labor that sends Stephen among seven servants to distribute relief goods to the poor. In the same way – and in the face of extremely complicated social issues – the churches that make up Stephen’s Table collaborate with social service agencies in order to preserve their primary role as a place of worship and improve their capacity to answer the material needs of prisoners and their families.
